MECHANICAL WORKSHOP – UDUKAWA

The Mechanical Workshop at Udukawa, Matara, operated by the Southern Provincial Road Development Authority (SPRDA), is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to vehicle repair, servicing, and machinery maintenance. Originally established to service SPRDA's extensive fleet of vehicles and heavy machinery—essential for road maintenance and development—the workshop has since expanded into a comprehensive mechanical hub. Spanning over 2 acres, it is fully equipped with cutting-edge tools and staffed by highly skilled experts capable of handling a vast range of mechanical needs.

Today, the Udukawa workshop plays a pivotal role in SPRDA’s operations, offering two core services. Firstly, it ensures the optimal functioning of SPRDA’s fleet, guaranteeing that critical road projects across the region are delivered smoothly and on time. Secondly, the workshop provides a highly sought-after equipment rental service, offering an impressive array of machinery, including backhoe loaders, tipper trucks, motor graders, road rollers, dump trucks, excavators, wheel loaders, skid loaders, and premix plants. This dual service capability positions the Udukawa workshop as a crucial asset, not only for SPRDA but for the entire construction sector in the Southern Province

MATERIAL TESTING LABORATORIES

The SPRDA operates two specialized laboratories dedicated to quality control for construction materials. One laboratory is situated in Weligama, while the other is located in Thotagoda. These laboratories provide essential testing services for government and private sector clients to assess the quality of materials such as concrete, soil, and Bitumen tests, which are critical for road construction and other infrastructure projects.
