ROADS & BRIDGES

The Road & Bridges (R&B) Division of the Southern Provincial Road Development Authority (SPRDA) is dedicated to maintaining and developing the road infrastructure within the Southern Province. This includes the upkeep of provincial roads (Class C, D, and E) as well as the construction and improvement of key structures such as bridges, culverts, causeways, drains, and retaining walls. The division plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of people and goods across the region, contributing to its economic growth and connectivity.

Role and Responsibilities

The Roads & Bridges (R&B) Division is responsible for:

  • Maintenance of Roads: Performing routine and periodic maintenance on provincial roads to ensure they remain safe and usable.
  • Infrastructure Development: Planning, designing, and overseeing the construction and improvement of road-related structures like bridges, culverts, causeways, retaining walls, and drainage systems.
  • Supervision of Projects: Ensuring that all maintenance and improvement projects are properly executed through the oversight of district engineers, divisional engineers, and technical officers.
  • Technical Guidance: Providing technical support and supervision to ensure that all road and bridge-related projects meet safety and quality standards.
  • Road Safety: Implementing safety measures to improve the overall security of the provincial road network.
